Spring-Summer 2015 Womens Louis Vuitton Ad Campaign

Louis Vuitton

louis_vuitton_ss15-womens-ad-campaign1If there’s an award for most print ads launched in single season, the winner would be Louis Vuitton, with Nicolas Ghesquière calling upon not 1, not 2 but 3 of his photographer friends (Annie Leibovitz, Juergen Teller and Bruce Weber) to return with Series 2, with each of the photographers interpreting the collection in a different locale.

Annie Leibovitz, for example, photographed Freja Beha in New York City. Juergen Teller worked with 4 different models and used a Parisian townhouse as the backdrop. And of course, there’s Bruce Weber who shot actress Jennifer Connelly in Miami for his contribution to the campaign.

Then there are the other stars of the campaign which you’ll see in almost every image, hanging from the model’s hands, being cradled or just sitting quietly by themselves. Yes, I’m talking about the bags from the S/S15 collection, most of which I had the pleasure of meeting when I was up in Bangkok for the press preview last month. And because it would be too long a post if I were to devote a full review to each piece, here’s a quick rundown first of what’s coming up for the season, with dedicated posts later for those of you keen on specific styles.

louis_vuitton_ss15-womens-ad-campaign2Left: Still not exactly sure what that is since I didn’t see this bag during the preview. Armoured breast plate? Xena’s shield? Only time will tell. Right: The Malletage Twist comes in quilted leather with a long shoulder chain that can be worn long or short. In other words, an alternative to everyone’s favourite bag from Chanel.

louis_vuitton_ss15-womens-ad-campaign3Left: Another variation of the Twist but with more streamlined (read: less puffy) sides. This one comes in exotic croc (read: will cost you an arm and 2 legs). Want a more affordable option? Have, but more on that later. Right: Meet the Dora Souple in coated canvas, not in brown and beige, but in the new colour combination of black and red. Divine, no?

louis_vuitton_ss15-womens-ad-campaign4Left: The Dora Souple (again) but in Monogram Canvas that’s trimmed with white leather. Another beauty. Right: Remember the more affordable of the Twist I was talking about earlier? Here it is in Epi treated to look like denim (interesting, right?). In Bleu or Noir that’s actually more grey.

louis_vuitton_ss15-womens-ad-campaign5Left: Another shot of the Malletage Twist, this time in the hands of actress Jennifer Connelly. Right: We all know how much of a runaway hit the Petite Malle was, so here it is for the new season in a new style. Meet the new Petite Malle Foldover that has the same front clasp as the Petite Malle but in a fluffier leather body.

louis_vuitton_ss15-womens-ad-campaign6Left: Half-holding, half-cradling, the Petite Malle will be back this season in Epi and exotic croc. Lush. Right: Model standing on chair with Dora Souple. Random much?

louis_vuitton_ss15-womens-ad-campaign7Left: Jennifer Connelly again with the Twist Stripes. Same bag, but treated with strips of leather in different colours. Right: So beautiful she deserves her own ad, the Twist in Epi Denim leather. Love.

Carolina Herrera Spring/Summer 2016 Collection – New York Fashion Week

Fashion

Carolina Herrera has long been one of our favourites when it comes to the Fashion Week runway shows that take over our lives for just about a month twice a year. She’s one of those designers that cater to the young at heart but mature personalities, with a resolutely modern minded appeal to her inspirations and final products. Her creations for the Carolina Herrera spring/summer 2016 collection that was presented yesterday midway through morning certainly fit in with our ideals for her, only serving to solidify our love for everything Carolina Herrera.

Carolina Herrera Spring/Summer 2016 Collection

She’s all uptown girl really, with a slight downtown aspect to her creations. She knows how to capture the more delicate nature of a woman without oversimplifying her appeal or sexing her up too much. On the contrary, she brings out the genteel, the beauty and the sophistication of a lady, who understands her femininity without giving up her power, hiding it in those modern pleats of her dress made up of narrow strips of tech fabrics stitched onto transparent mesh. It is decorous but discreet, gorgeous without overdoing it. It is modern and futuristic even while still bringing in the appeal that was found in the old-fashioned designs in this stylization.

Herrera has also got the real pleats appearing on the day dresses though and her fascination with a dusky pink is clear, like the summer blush of a lady pure of the world’s troubles. She is a confident woman, but one given to tea dates and strolls about town with the girls, one, who expects a courtship and values herself rather highly. She is a lady through and through and that is the image Carolina Herrera has created time and again.

In Herrera’s own words, fashion should be optimistic and since this appears to be her rose period, it is only fitting to have shades of pink appear on the runway, albeit with a dash of black and blue and white throughout. Transparency is a big theme here, while presented in a modest manner. The designer knows that it only gets boring if you reveal everything, which essentially has led to her understanding that if she wants to captivate, a more modest approach is the best avenue to take. Peekaboo l’oeil pleats were only one of her secrets to achieving this, while techno mesh and neoprene came into focus as well.

While modesty was key, it was not cloy sweetness we were faced with but optimistic chis that centered on sophistication and gentility. She had the dresses for the evening as well as the day, while her synthetic materials appeared all the more intriguing than real silks and cottons could ever be. Off the shoulder, mid-thigh hems, high necks and calf-length skirts, the colors swirled about and there was everything to love about this particular collection that could all but literally take our breaths away. Those modern pleats really did it for us, pushing the Carolina Herrera spring 2016 collection to the top of our “to buy” lists for the upcoming seasons of beauty and warmth.

Tommy Hilfiger Spring/Summer 2016 Collection – New York Fashion Week

Fashion

Tommy, Tommy, you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind! At least that’s what comes to mind upon seeing the latest in collections, the Tommy Hilfiger spring/summer 2016 ready-to-wear lineup that traipsed onto the catwalk during the New York Fashion Week. It was the island life that Hilfiger planned to capture and boy did he do a good job at it, bringing in the themes from the exclusive Caribbean island of Mustique, turning the show into a nostalgic experience for those, who have had the pleasure of enjoying the island’s beauty for themselves and creating a sense of awe among those who have yet to taste the forbidden fruits of the hidden paradise. Crochet bikinis appeared on stage and were most certainly reminiscent of all that the islands had to offer with sexy gang of Gigi and Bella Hadid, along with Hailey Baldwin and others skipping into the water for a rather interesting finale to the show.

Tommy Hilfiger Spring/Summer 2016 Collection

While many focused on the clothing itself, the Tommy Hilfiger spring 2016 collection brought its focus on colorful and creative swimwear, though not without the accompaniment of youthful and rather upbeat vacation pieces that we can already imagine lining our luggage that will be taken with us on our next trip down to Portofino. Among the 60 pieces presented, there were more than enough pieces of inspiration to give us tropical island dreams for months on end, getting us through the colder days of winter with ease. Youthful and playful was the theme and the knit trend seems to continue with gusto, appearing on bucket hats (another must-have for the season to come, as it appears) in sunny colors, mesh vests and soccer tracksuits in an interesting burgundy suede.

Crochet is big now and we can certainly see why! With its airy appeal and gorgeous effects on the skin underneath, it brings grandmother’s renditions to mind while still maintaining its contemporary feel. The 1970s might have been so very last year but that does not mean that 2016 won’t be bringing in hints of those trends this year as well, something this collection has proven in abundance. Patchwork and billowing chiffon dresses aside, that crochet is all the 1970s bohemian you need this year.

While we certainly do have hints of the others, it is the bikinis that really get the blood boiling at the moment. We can’t be seen striding down the streets in a string bikini unless we’re beachside these days, but we can certainly put on any of these awesome dresses, or even decide to traipse about in a trademark orange and navy colored knit sweater with a monkey staring out the front. Nothing to see here folks, carry on! It’s fun, its happy and the Tommy Hilfiger spring 2016 collection is all the summery you really need! The knit sweater and crochet dresses will get you through the cooler spring days at least, before you can go frolic in the sun in a bikini that makes you feel like you are young, no matter what your real age may be.
